The Future of the Skyscraper
Skidmore, Owings & Merrill
Are skyscrapers a mere representation of decadence? Or are they a symbol of forward-looking aspirations?
Personally, I feel it is a mix of both because hey! — we are at the end of the day humans with values that although opposing, indeed do share a common wavelength of wanting to be better than we were the days before... no?
In this book which is actually a compilation of essays by 8 different authors; all of different backgrounds and somewhat detached from the built-environment industry — it is definitely refreshing to see such new perspectives.
My personal favourite? The essay by Emily Bager on how humans could possibly adapt to living tall — not because of a growth spurt in height hahaha but actually of how it could actually readjust to suit the intention of living way above the ground.
